Fantastic! You want to be a beta reader. Read below to find out what it all entails.
Being a beta reader is a lot of fun because you get access to stories early, but you also become a guinea pig for me and there is a lot of prodding. If you're interested in becoming a beta reader make sure you meet the guidelines below.
1) Have to be able to meet time constraints. It's nothing ridiculous, but it's important for the development of the story and editing. Time frames will be based on the project, and will be told before getting access to the story.
2) Must be able to give constructive criticism. Yes, character A is an asshole, but that doesn't mean I'm going to change them. However, if Character C is an asshole and it doesn't jibe with who they are as a character or the response seems misplaced then I can work with that. There is a difference. Here's an article on constructive criticism to help you out.
3) Expect questions. Most of the time I'm pretty good at deciphering things, but sometimes I'll have questions.
Of course this isn't all there is, and I'll add more guidelines, but it's a good way to build up a rapport. At the moment compensation is a free digital copy of the book and a thank you on the acknowledgements page. It is possible that could change until then this is all I have.
